Evelyn Brooks, born in Lima, Peru, started creating jewelry in 2004 after a career in the travel industry. She founded her company, Evelyn Brooks Designs, with a vision of designing and producing eco-friendly jewelry that would show the world the rich Peruvian millenary history of jewelry design. Her work is partly influenced by her parents, her father who began designing jewelry more than 50 years ago and her mother who owned a fashion specialty store.
Evelyn uses sterling silver as well as gemstones, beads and huayruro seeds in her creations. Each piece is handcrafted and inspired by her Peruvian heritage. One of her collections titled Nazca is inspired by Peruvian pre-Incan culture for which typical characteristics are spiral motifs, symbolizing a belief that every action will not be lost in nature but produce an effect somewhere else. Another collection, the Moschik, is also inspired by pre-Incan culture and is distinguished by abstract patterns and geometric figures.
In 2013, Evelyn received the highly coveted "Successful Peruvian Women in the United States Award," bestowed by the Embassy of Peru in the United States, as well as the "New Generation Entrepreneur Tumi Award," given to those Peruvian immigrants in the US excelling in their profession. She has also received the "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" from Dialogue on Diversity, and the "Outstanding Artist Achievement Award" from Empowered Women International.
